Pre-Departure Information

Please read through the following information carefully. If there is any additional information that you require, please contact International Surgery prior to travel.

weather

Gurugram (Gurgaon) experiences four distinct seasons - spring (February - March), summer (April - August), fall/autumn (September - October) and winter (November - January), along with the monsoon season setting in towards the latter half of the summer. Summers, from early April to mid-October, are typically hot and humid, with an average daily June high temperature of 40 °C. The season experiences heat indices easily breaking 43 °C. Winters are cold and foggy with few sunny days, and with a December daytime average of 3 °C.

Languages and dialect

The main language spoken in Gurugram is Hindi, though a segment of the population understands and speaks English. The dialect used in Hindi is similar to that of Delhi. English is spoken with an Indian accent, with a primarily North Indian influence. Since Gurugram has a large number of international call centres, the employees are usually given formal training in neutral pronunciation in order to be understandable to native English speakers.

Travel tips

  • Summers are quite intense, so it is ideal to carry water whenever you go out. Cotton clothing is apt for the summers. Woollen clothes are a must for winter.
  • The visitors must not harm the surroundings.
  • Language is not a problem as Hindi and English are widely spoken here.
  • Food is not an issue, as Gurgaon has multi cuisine restaurants.
  • Visitors must carry an identity proof in case of an emergency.

Visa requirement

You will need a valid passport and a valid Indian visa. You can use the eTourist Visa for tourism, recreation, sight seeing, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical treatments or casual business visit or an eMedical Visa for longer duration medical treatments. International Surgery will assist you in obtaining the correct visa. Please click the button below and complete the form so we can organise this for you.

Vaccinations

There is no requirement to have any vaccinations before you depart, and it is recommended not to have any unnecessary medications that may delay your recovery. If you have any questions or concerns about vaccinations and whether or not to have them, these can be discussed with your Fortis Surgeon during your consultation process whilst in New Zealand.

INDIA Culture

Indian people are extremely friendly, and you will find they go out of their way to help you. However, you must be aware that their culture is different in some respects, especially in regards to the western understanding of time. You may find that they are not focused on specific appointment times, as they are people orientated rather than time orientated. Please be patient and understand that this is not a reflection on the quality, it is simply a cultural difference.

Along with this, your appointments may be changed at short notice, especially surgery consultations, due to emergency surgeries that your Surgeon may need to perform. Do not worry about this, your appointment may just be delayed, not cancelled, and you will always get your consultation as soon as the Surgeon becomes available. All Fortis Surgeons are extremely flexible, working at nights and on weekends, so you will always be seen, although not always given a specific time. This flexibility is also beneficial to you, so you can make or change your appointment should you wish at short notice.
